“A Long Time” has been on repeat for me. Rap has not been the same since Nipsey Hussle was killed, and even more so after all this D*ddy ish. I am grateful for songs like this. I am thoroughly impressed with the evolution lyrically and cadence/ style wise with Millyz too.
What also makes Millyz inspiring to me is the story behind the music. Years before bigger records, tours, and recognition, he was grinding through freestyles, independent releases, and raw consistency until eventually catching the attention of Jadakiss and signing to SoRaspy. That did not happen because of luck or industry shortcuts. You can hear the years of sharpening his craft in his cadence, storytelling, and conviction. That is why records like “Wilt Chamberlain” hit differently to me. They sound like somebody who survived the long road and came out stronger because of it. As somebody who remembers practicing rhymes on BARS and studying those early cipher opportunities like they were gold, I respect seeing perseverance actually pay off in real time. It is a reminder that consistency compounds, that hunger matters, and that sometimes the people you looked up to eventually recognize the work, too. What a fire song! If you are from Boston and not standing up, I don’t understand! Jadakiss is a Genius for signing this talent, as well as being a lyrical genius himself. When I was able to do those 4 ciphers with him, thanks to the homies at the Bars app., those meant the world to me then, during the quarantine.
